How to Install WordPress

Installing WordPress need not be a lengthy, painful process. In fact, many hosting plans at KnownHost include tools like cPanel, or DirectAdmin, and Softaculous which can make installation a breeze.

How to Install WordPress using Softaculous

One of the quickest ways to install WordPress is via Softaculous. Follow the steps below to be up and running in just a few minutes.

  1. Login to your control panel of choice (cPanel or DirectAdmin)
  2. Click on Software → Softaculous (in cPanel)
  3. Click on Blogs → WordPress (in Softaculous)
  4. Click Install
  5. Fill in the form (much will be prefilled)
    1. Install URL (leave default unless you want a different domain/path)
    2. In Directory - should be blank if you want the blog running on the default domain and not some subfolder
    3. Admin Username - pick a username for logging in to WordPress (do not use admin or your control panel username)
    4. Admin Password - pick a secure password (using upper/lower/number/punctuation)
    5. Admin Email - your real email address (handy for password resets and notifications)
    6. Select Language - choose one you speak
  6. Click Install
  7. Wait for the confirmation message after the install completes
