WHMCS vs Blesta: Which One Should You Choose?
Last Updated: May 7, 2026
Picking a billing platform is one of the first real decisions you make when setting up a hosting reseller business. WHMCS and Blesta are the two most popular options. Both are solid. But they are not the same, and the right choice depends on what matters most to you.
What They Have in Common
Start here. Both platforms handle the core stuff: billing, invoicing, client management, service provisioning, support tickets, and domain management. Whichever you pick, the fundamentals are covered.
Pricing
Here is how the two compare at KnownHost:
- WHMCS – $9.95 per month, supports up to 250 clients
- Blesta Branded – $5.00 per month, Blesta branding shows in your client portal
- Blesta Unbranded – $9.00 per month, Blesta branding is removed so the portal looks like your own
Just getting started and watching costs? Blesta Branded is the cheapest way in. Want a white-label setup without paying the WHMCS rate? Blesta Unbranded lands right in the middle.
Ease of Use
WHMCS has been around since 2003. That means a huge user base, loads of tutorials, and active community forums. It also means the interface has a lot going on. New users can find it overwhelming at first.
Blesta is cleaner. Most people get up and running faster. The tradeoff is a smaller community, so if you hit a wall, you are more likely to rely on official docs than a forum thread someone else already answered.
Integrations
WHMCS wins here. It has a large marketplace of third-party modules, plugins, and integrations. Payment gateways, registrars, control panels. Chances are there is already something built for whatever you need.
Blesta covers the common integrations well. For most small to mid-sized hosting businesses that is plenty. If you have niche requirements though, check Blesta’s marketplace first before committing.
Security
Both take security seriously. Blesta goes a step further by making its codebase fully open for review. Developers can see exactly what is running on their server. That kind of transparency is hard to argue with.
WHMCS is closed-source. The code is not publicly available. Not a dealbreaker for most people, but worth knowing.
So Which One Is Right for You?
- Pick WHMCS if you want the industry standard, need a wide range of integrations, or are already familiar with it.
- Pick Blesta Branded if you are starting out and keeping costs low is the priority.
- Pick Blesta Unbranded if you want a white-label client portal without the WHMCS price tag.
