Using DNS and SSL on same IP address

Hi,

I have just signed up for a new VPS plan and have 2 new IP addresses issued. I have established these as my nameserver IP's (ns1... and ns2...). I have read around the internet that I can also use one of these IP addresses for a SSL certificate for my host domain - i.e. no 3rd IP required. Does anyone know if Known Host will allow m,e to do that in cPanel?

Thanks, Paulb

From what I just read it looks like you can since DNS and SSL run on different ports. You won't be able to do anything else with that IP though and make sure that it's not your shared IP as only the domain that the SSL cert is for can be on that IP.

paulb,

Using DNS and SSL on the same IP, as Dan mentioned, is not a problem at all. In fact, if I had to take a guess at the percentage of servers that do this I'd say it's 80+% handle DNS+Apache (Port 80 and 443 (for SSL)) on the same IP. This is default cPanel configuration as well.

Let us know if you have any problems accomplishing this.
