some questions

hi, we're thinking about a managed VPS account and had some questions from our IT consultant for you:

1) is there security at the edge of the network? that is, is there virus scanning on edge of firewall? We want to be sure any possible malware gets intercepted when migrating over before it hits the server.

2) is there telephone support once one establishes an account with knownhost? or is support only through tickets and the forum?

3) what kind of cpu is used and how is it allocated? this is with regard to "may not go over 25% total for longer than 90 seconds"

4) with regard to hard drive storage allocations in an account, what do you consider as storage? for example, do third party applications eat into storage?

thanks!

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in KnownHost. Please see below as I've answered your questions.

1) is there security at the edge of the network? that is, is there virus scanning on edge of firewall? We want to be sure any possible malware gets intercepted when migrating over before it hits the server.

--We install a firewall for the VPS itself but on the server level we don't have firewalls in place to sniff such viruses, etc.

2) is there telephone support once one establishes an account with knownhost? or is support only through tickets and the forum?

--Our Support is one of the best in the industry with average response times of 15-20 minutes but it's all via helpdesk. Thru many years of experience phone support becomes counterproductive when your trying to provide fast knowledgable support as in many cases the tech's on the phone can't resolve the issue without help anyway. Our ticket system allows for future reference thru documented emails which can be viewed at a later time thru our helpdesk. This comes in quite handy.

3) what kind of cpu is used and how is it allocated? this is with regard to "may not go over 25% total for longer than 90 seconds"

--Our newest servers are Dual Quad Core's some of which are Intel Xeon's and others which are AMD Opteron's. Depending on availability we can put you on either of these two. We use Virtuozzo which the way we configure it is based on Equal Share CPU which means you get an equal percentage of CPU as does every other customer on the same server. We don't oversell so you get to use a large CPU portion as in reality you can burst the entire CPU just not on a consistent basis as this can negatively affect other customers on the same server.

4) with regard to hard drive storage allocations in an account, what do you consider as storage? for example, do third party applications eat into storage?

--Anything residing on the server (so if stored on the server) counts towards your disk space allotment.

Thanks,
Joel
