Host site

Hi all,

I'm new to VPS, and already setup my first account through WHM (this is my domain name) just to play around on before i setup and transfer my clients accounts. This domain is also the domain for the host. (Host.mydomain.com). I managed to be able to setup the account so I can access it through cpanel, but I was just curious if I should/need to create some sort of webpage for the actual host.mydomain.com. The way i access my whm is through mydomain.com:2086. I guess I was curious if I should be accessing my whm through the host.mydomain.com URL or is it fine to just keep it, that the host url is pulling up a cgi parked page? Just curious as to what the best option is and to ensure security of my VPS.

Thanks in advance!

First off, welcome to KnownHost! Glad to have you.

You don't need to set up a webpage for the hostname as anyone trying to load it will be presented with the default cgi parked page. This is common and doesn't need a page of it's own really.

You can access WHM either way really. It's an option to use either the IP address plus the port or the hostname plus the port or even WHM or cpanel after that.

http://someiphere:2086
https://someiphere:2087

http://host.mydomain.com/whm
http://host.mydomain.com/cpanel

You can see that when using the hostname it may forward to the port number in the address bar.

Let me know if this helps.

That's the beauty of it.....cPanel provides them free of charge as well as installs it for you.

You may get a notice about it in your email if I recall.

If you want to make sure it's there please open a ticket with Support and they'll take a look for you.
