VPS and PCI

Hi,
I am in the market for a Linux VPS solution (tired of shared plans) for my store and I had a couple questions.
1. Is your infrastructure and procedures PCI complaint?
2. Would I be permitted to have external PCI scans run on the server?
3. Are your Database and email services running on the same web server?
4. If vulnerabilities are discovered in the standard applications provided KnownHost such as the OS, MySQL, PHP or the Web server, is there a cost to patching these?
5. Can KnownHost work with me to become PCI compliant?
6. What is the recommended package for an application which requires PHP5?

Earl,

Thank you for your interest in KnownHost. Please see my comments in line:

1. Is your infrastructure and procedures PCI complaint?
--It is not by default.

2. Would I be permitted to have external PCI scans run on the server?
--Yes you can.

3. Are your Database and email services running on the same web server?
--With a VPS everything is hosted inside the VPS by default but actual
configuration depends on your needs - i.e. you can get a second VPS for, for example, mail services or opt to host mail somewhere on 3rd party systems;

4. If vulnerabilities are discovered in the standard applications provided KnownHost such as the OS, MySQL, PHP or the Web server, is there a cost to patching these?
--Yes, we can assist with applications updates. There is no cost for this.

5. Can KnownHost work with me to become PCI compliant?
--Yes, we can assist with system configuration adjustments as long as
scan results are provided.

6. What is the recommended package for an application which requires PHP5?
--A VPS with cPanel would be your best option.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for your response, I just have one last question. If I wanted to restrict access to my MySQL server from other servers/network devices both internal and external to your network, is this possible?

Earl

Earl,

Yes it is. With a VPS you have full root access and as such it is
possible to do any configuration there, including firewall configuration
where such restrictions can be set.

Thanks,
Joel
