Sign up and setup question

OK, so I saw the promo on the monthly plan and based on other things have decided to sign up, so have a few questions.

I currently have shared hosting, so essentially looking to move over. I don't really need you guys to move my account since I only have a couple php apps on my server running and I will do those manually myself.
So I want to sign up but leave my current DNS settings alone while I set up my new VPS server, then when I know its all working I just update my DNS at my registrar. Is this possible? If so do I just access my server via IP address until I redirect my DNS at my registrar? I will not be transferring my domain just redirecting DNS.

Oh and with the coupon code it says 10% off for life of service, what if I upgrade in the future do I still get the 10%?

This is not a problem. We usually move all customer accounts but this isn't something we have to do. It is good to hear your signing up. We will have the VPS ready within a few hours of signing up.
