    Hi there...

I am interested in using my servers as primary / secondary DNS, instead of using another DNS service.

I looked at this page for examples / help:

    http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/LinuxTutorialWebSiteConfig.html#DNS

    So far so good.

But my two IP addresses are for the same box. So how can I set up master / slave named.conf files? Any help appreciated.

Ok, second questions... figured out the first...

I am coming up to speed on the DNS stuff, and realized that all I need to do with the above question is just eliminate the slave DNS entry, but that means I'll have no secondary DNS which is not a great idea.

    Here's my second question then...

I don't want to pay for DNS outside of knownhost.com. If I transfer domains to Knownhost.com, will they take care of reverse lookups so mail won't bounce - how would they handle the secondary DNS? Is this automatically integrated if I get Cpanel or Plesk through them (right now I just edit everything myself using SSH.

    Thanks :)

    Hello Matt,

Knownhost will of course configure RDNS for your main IP no problem.

There is no secondary DNS and to my knowledge very few if any hosts have this service. I agree it would be a huge benefit but as far as I know the only way to go about it is through a third party.
