Hi Guys,

I need your information quickly because I'm in the middle of registration.

I'm confused to determine the Control Panel and Memory Upgrade option:
1. I want to use a lightweight Control Panel, I think I'm going to use DirectAdmin but if in the future I need to change to CPanel, is it possible and easy?
2. I heard CPanel is taking a lot of memory compared to others, but when I don't use it (I will seldom access it), does it still take a lot of memory?
3. I want to take Ltx account and upgrade the RAM to 512MB, if in the future I need to downgrade the RAM (because for example I don't need to many RAM), is it possible and easy?

Thank you.

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in KnownHost. I have answered your questions below. Hope to see you signup.

1. Directadmin is definitely the "lightest" in terms of memory usage. If you are looking for that then go for Directadmin. Moving to another control panel is definitely NOT easy. This is manual in most cases so you would need to do it. I would choose the control panel you intend to use indefinitely.

2. Just to have cPanel installed it uses like 130-140 MB of memory so yes idle it still uses a nice amount of memory. There are services you can turn off so the memory usage can drop. In general cPanel sells the most for us but they do add memory unlike others (on the side a la carte).

3. Adding memory is simple and results in no downtime. The same applies to downgrading the memory.

Joel

Thanks for your reply. I had signed up before you replied actually, can't have something pending in my head :)

Oops... so it's difficult to change the control panel? I chose DirectAdmin because I need more memory space, I don't need "advanced" CP's features.
Okay, maybe you can tell me if what I need in a CP is covered by DirectAdmin, my primary needs would be:
- setup ImageMagick and MagickWand (ImageMagick's module).
- setup CRON job
- setup database and work with database using PHPMyAdmin
- does DirectAdmin already include PHP and MySQL? what version?
- Zend Optimizer
- Curl support
I had seen some features on demo, but haven't dug too deep yet.

Oh another question, I signed up with one of my domain, let's say aaa.com, is it possible if I changed it later to bbb.com? will my nameserver be changed too?

Sorry for many questions here, I'm new to VPS thing, hope you don't mind guiding me :)

Thank you.

Aditan22,

- setup ImageMagick and MagickWand (ImageMagick's module).

Our support can help with this, just submit a ticket and provide a link to installation instructions which explains where to get and how to install MagickWand.

- setup CRON job
- setup database and work with database using PHPMyAdmin

DA provides this functionality, related links to their documentation site:
Cron: http://www.site-helper.com/misc.html#cron
DBs: http://www.site-helper.com/mysql.html

- does DirectAdmin already include PHP and MySQL? what version?

Yep. PHP 4.4.6 and MySQL 4.1.21 are pre-installed.

- Zend Optimizer

Can be easily installed. Submit a ticket is you need our help with this one.

- Curl support

Curl extension is enabled in PHP configuration on DA systems by default.

I had seen some features on demo, but haven't dug too deep yet.

Good starting points for DA are:
DA admin interface documentation: http://admin.site-helper.com/
Reseller level documentation: http://reseller.site-helper.com/
User level documentation: http://www.site-helper.com/

DA KB: http://help.directadmin.com/

DA forums: http://www.directadmin.com/forum

Oh another question, I signed up with one of my domain, let's say aaa.com, is it possible if I changed it later to bbb.com? will my nameserver be changed too?

Not a problem at all. You can change default nameserver names on the "Administrator Settings" screen (http://admin.site-helper.com/settings.html) and update NS records for existing domains through "DNS Administration" (http://admin.site-helper.com/dnsadmin.html).

Paul
