HOWTO Update your VPS

This is a short but sweet one.

If you want to make sure that your centos is up to date w/ all of its components:

1. Log into ssh as root.
2. run command: yum update
3. From their, yum will try to find applicable updates and prompt you to allow any applicable updates to be installed.

An important note with this(that I had to learn the hard way) is that this proccess only updates your centos OS and its components NOT your CP.
Each process of updating your CP varies with each CP(I know for Plesk in the admin cp you have to go to the "updater")

If I missed anything:)p) or anyone has anything to add to this please PM me.

Regards,

Hey Josh,

I tried running this as it seemed like a good idea to me. It resulted in the message "No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion". Is that normal if it's up to date already?

Yup, perfectly normal. It means your VPS is all up to date. Be sure to check that your CP is up to date though. ;)
