Does anyone have an experience with setting up a GitLab repo on a VPS?
Right now, I have a few wordpress sites hosted on the VPS, and I am wondering if I can leverage the VPS as an online source control repo.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!
 
We use Gitlab internally and it works amazingly - however I'm not sure it would work too well on a cPanel server since it takes over so much of the system, uses port 80, etc.

My recommendation would be toss it on a no-panel system.

Exactly as stated here. I've attempted setting up GitLab on a cPanel server, with no luck at all. Put many hours into attempting it, asked for community bases assistance/feedback on it with no luck at all.
 
Thank Jonathan and David for the speedy and insightful response. I don't think my use will justify getting another panelless VPS for now, but the information is great for future reference!
