I'm using my Managed VPS account to host a number of Drupal sites. The standard Drupal "status" page includes "Upload Progress." My sites all show "Disabled" and:
Your server is capable of displaying file upload progress, but does not have the required libraries. It is recommended to install the PECL upload progress library (preferred) or to install APC.
I'm not worried about displaying upload status but I am curious about PECL and APC:

- Can I install those or would KH have to do it for me? (I'm managed VPS)
- Once either PECL or APC are installed, would a normal PHP update/upgrade also update/upgrade PECL/APC or would it have to be done manually?
- More specifically, is there a reason why KH didn't include either library in their default PHP installation.
