Droa / Drg

Time Lord
Having received a letter this past week, I thought I'd post this for anyone that may be new to the web hosting thing.

Over the years, a company called Domain Registry of Amerca (DROA) has been involved in what is called Domain Slamming. Essentially, they'll send you a letter telling you that your domain is going to expire and attempt to trick you into transferring it to them.

This letter that I received was from the Domain Renewal Group (DRG), but it was very similar to one I had received a few years ago from the DROA. A closer look at their site reveals that they're part of DROA.

The best way to avoid getting duped is to be informed. I just wanted to take this opportunity to pre-inform some people that may not be aware of them.

I posted the letter I received (with my information blurred) on a recent blog post.

I hope this helps to inform some people!

I've seen these types of letters over the years too and what I tell people is if it doesn't come from who you are actually registered with then just ignore it :)

Exactly. Some people don't take time to consider that, though. So long as people can take their time and be properly informed about things such as this, then they hopefully won't fall for it.

I've had clients get upset after receiving these letters. They call me up and say "I paid you for X number of years but this says my domain is expiring!" It usually takes me an hour to reassure them that it simply isn't so. Maybe I should bill these scam artists for my time?

I had contact with DRG a few times and theyre usually very friendly and helpful. So, if any of the representatives I mean Garland specialists would drop them a listing with Judy recordings, that should be re-issued, they would surely take care of it.
