CentOS 7 to Alma upgrade

Can anybody offer opinions on whether the ELevate upgrade path from CentOS 7 to Alma8 is a viable option for a production machine? Any estimates on downtime or possible failure modes?

And a related KH question - is it possible to snapshot the entire VPS and roll back to it if the upgrade went sideways?

I'm trying to decide if I should give ELevate a try, or spin up a new Alma8 server and migrate that way.

Thanks!

Hi Sclemons,

If you're running a VPS of KnownHost on the OpenVZ or Cloud Platform, we can perform this process for you.

We do take snapshots prior to performing the process. We've done roughly several hundred of these so far.

The downtime depends on your service (OVZ or Cloud)

OVZ is about 10-15 minutes, for a final reboot at the end to ensure everything comes back up.

Cloud a bit longer as it may involve multiple reboots.

Thanks Jonathan. Does that include unmanaged accounts?

Ah, no, unfortunately not. Only Managed Services, it's something we're doing as part of it.

Unmanaged will need to migrate to a new server, we don't recommend trying to use the Elevate process.

Can the customer request to have it scheduled, let's say to perform the migration on a Sunday perhaps non-peak time?

They're not currently able to be scheduled. If you need scheduling, then an actual migration may likely be better for you.
