Moving from Bluehost

Hiya, I am part of a website hosted by bluehost. Since we had a lot of issues with them, and they are just squeezing money from us we really shouldn't have to spend, we want to move away. Somebody recommended KH so here we are.
We do have a few questions before we do anything.

1. What issues can we expect if we try to migrate from BH to KH? (and then we're mostly interested in what issues can BH create for us)
2. We also wanted to double check if the Shared Webhosting package would be sufficient for our use. We're currently 2 GB disk usage and 500 MB MySQL® Disk Usage

Thanks in advance for your help

Hey there.

Thanks for stopping by our forums!

1. What issues can we expect if we try to migrate from BH to KH? (and then we're mostly interested in what issues can BH create for us)

You shouldn't see too many issues, if any at all -- as long as we can create a full cPanel backup we can move/migrate you over with little to no issues.

A cPanel backup would copy the following
  • Files
  • Folders
  • Databases
  • Emails
  • FTP Accounts
Basically, everything that's needed to migrate.

Sometimes BlueHost has some caveats on their backups, but we usually find a way to make it work.

2. We also wanted to double check if the Shared Webhosting package would be sufficient for our use. We're currently 2 GB disk usage and 500 MB MySQL® Disk Usage

Our Basic Shared Package has the following limits

--
  • 1 Domain
  • 5 GB Cloud Storage
  • 5 Email Accounts
  • 2 MySQL Databases
  • Unlimited Premium Bandwidth
--

You would want to check how many emails you have and how many databases -- if you have less than the numbers stated; you'd be fine under the Basic Shared Package.

We would verify prior to migrating as well, as we don't want you experiencing any surprises.

In the event that you don't fit within those confines of that package -- it can easily be upgraded to the next package level.

Let us know if you have any further questions!

Awesome, thanks!
One question somebody brought to me; do we get a notification or something prior to the migration starting? Or is there any standard timeline after we put in an order?

If possible, we want to be able to give our forum members a heads up on when the move would take place.
(e.g. "today we might be offline for a whiel due to migration" would be preferable to "somewhere this week... hopefully")

The migration gets performed whenever you want it to be performed, night, day, evening.

You submit a ticket requesting migration -- we typically request you submit the ticket when you want it to occur

However, you can request a later time-frame within the same day.

We check the source and destination server for comparisons to ensure website compatibility.

We migrate the websites entirely.

We provide you the completion notification and what you need to do, if anything. (Usually just changing nameservers)
