    Php 5.3

I tried to search for this, but was unsuccessful. Will all servers be upgrading to 5.3 or will we be given an option? If there is a sticky someplace on KnownHost, please post it. Thanks! -chaddro

    File Permissions, Ownership and Nobody

Hi Dan, Yes, I have done this numerous times. Magento has always been picky about permissions, but I have been installing and testing it since .6 beta 18 months ago. I never had this much trouble with it. The way the system is now I have to set all files and folders to 777 in order for the pear...

    File Permissions, Ownership and Nobody

Having a little trouble with tech support, so I just wanted to verify my understanding here. I am a unix noob, so please be patient with me ! To make a LOOOONG story short: Tech recompiles apache to enable FastCGI so I could also use xcache. But now I'm getting "permissions" problems...

    Litespeed offering?

Litespeed is now available in a free commercial and non-commercial license. Also found some nice notes here on Litespeed and magento that should interest Knownhost and us magento fans: http://www.evanbrassart.com/category/development/magento-commerce/

    Email (exim?) problems

according to support: When sending batch of emails together many files are being opened. This can cause an increase in numfile parameter. If the numfile parameter exceeds you will not be able to open shared files. I checked the resource usage of your VPS from Virtuozzo power panel...

Why is Memory Usage always so high?

Jaxel, If your running in the 70-80% without hitting the 90-100% wall, then I'd say your doing pretty well. I have a site that is vps-L that was constantly in the 90-100 range. Company site with 30 e-mails requiring spam assassin on cpanel. After many attempts at tweaking mysql and other...

    Help Understanding IP Configuration

Yes, I agree with you about DomainKeys and DKIM (both Yahoo appearently). I stumbled on a site earlier that was very anti SPF, but it hadn't been updated since 2006. But doing so (following all the rules) did give me a 10% increase in open rates. Did I understand correctly that you are NOT...

    Help Understanding IP Configuration

Well, my limited understanding is that your base ip is your "physical" SERVER, then your second (third, and so on) IP is your website(s). This way your SERVER can host/serve multiple sites. But according to knownhost, I can make 8.217 my site's address. The MX entry fix that support did above...

    Help Understanding IP Configuration

Here is a reply from knownhost support that may be useful for others: The above may well help with my mail delivery issues. But I am still curious as to which IP the main site should be on...

    Help Understanding IP Configuration

I did submit a ticket and Knownhost has suggested fixing the ns1/ns2 mixup. They have also suggest moving the website's binding address to 8.217 from 9.217. I'm not sure what that entails and am waiting for their response. Dan, you must be right about the ns1/ns2 authorizing otherwise things...

    Help Understanding IP Configuration

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Here is some added info form points you both bring up: main shared virtual host ip: xxx.xxx.8.217 hostname: host.ro...nc.com ns1.ro...nc.com -> xxx.xxx.9.217 ns2.ro...nc.com -> xxx.xxx.8.217 (the above is also how my domain name servers are set with...

    Memory Woes

Dan, Well, Knownhost support didn't think there was anything in Apache that could be further optimized. I'm sure I could continue to work with my.cnf for mysql and httpd.conf to get things to work better, but it seems that it's the bots that are gobbling up system resources during a crawl...

    Memory Woes

Okay. Back at 100% again. This is after another crawl by a couple more bots. Here is my top from ssh: http://chicagophoto.net/knownhost/top-100.gif I am at a loss ... sucks not knowing what you're doing

    Modifying httpd.conf Settings

Yesterday when my server hit 100% (again) I checked top through ssh and I had about a dozen httpd threads running all over 12%. I checked to see what was going on and it turns out google, yahoo, msn and another bot all decided to crawl my site at the same time ! I waited till it looked...

    Memory Woes

Hey Dan, I wouldn't know where to start with recompiling Apache or even which modules are unnecessary ... feel like really deep water here, and I'm stuck in the shallows, LOL. What modules would you NOT want to use? Tweaking mysql and http has been some help. But after looking again at TOP...

    Memory Woes

Here's an update: I installed and ran tuning-primer.sh which made some interesting suggestion to make in my.cnf. I changed a couple of these to see how things were affected and restarted mysql. MySQL dropped from 16.5% to 12.1 ... I'm sure there is more I can do there. I also see that you can...
